Homemade Tomato Salsa

Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeds removed and finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, red onion, jalapeño pepper, cilantro, and minced garlic.
  2. Squeeze the lime juice over the mixture and sprinkle with cumin.
  3. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Start with a small amount of salt and adjust according to your preference.
  4. Gently stir all the ingredients together until well combined.
  5. For best flavor, allow the salsa to sit at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes to let the flavors meld together.
  6. Give the salsa a taste and adjust the seasonings if needed. You can add more lime juice, salt, or cilantro according to your preference.
  7. Transfer the salsa to a serving bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors further develop.
  8. Serve the tomato salsa with tortilla chips, as a topping for tacos, quesadillas, grilled meats, or any dish that could use a burst of fresh and tangy flavor.

Note: If you prefer a spicier salsa, you can leave the seeds in the jalapeño pepper or add more chili peppers according to your heat tolerance.
