Homemade Peach Cobbler Recipe

Ingredients

For the Peach Filling:

  • 8 fresh peaches, peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch

For the Cobbler Topping:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 12 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup boiling water

Additional Topping:

  • 3 tablespoons white sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Peach Filling: In a large bowl, combine the peaches, 1/4 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Toss to coat the peaches evenly and pour them into a 2-quart baking dish. Bake in a preheated oven at 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 degrees Celsius) for 10 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Cobbler Topping: Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine flour, 1/2 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Blend in butter with your fingertips or a pastry cutter until mixture resembles coarse meal. Pour in boiling water and stir until just combined.
  3. Assemble the Cobbler: After removing peaches from the oven, drop spoonfuls of the topping over the peaches.
  4. Bake: Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the cobbler topping. Bake in the oven at 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 degrees Celsius) for about 30 minutes, or until the topping bubbling and golden brown.
  5. Cool & Serve: Serve your peach cobbler warm or at room temperature. It pairs wonderfully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream!
